Matchweek 5 – The Atlanta Caribbean Pro Premier Division – UPSL

Another stellar weekend of action this week and every single match was a stunner. What we are learning over the past few weeks is that the race for the title is absolutely wide open. Just when you think you have a favorite for the title, a surprise result changes the entire picture. This was in play again this week with the results we will review below.

Atlanta Generals FC suddenly are relevant with a good win against KSA Pro-Profile.

10:00am Game:
Atlanta Generals FC vs KSA Pro U19
Atlanta Generals FC have found their footing in the last 2 weeks. After a slow start to the season with no points from 2 games, there now has been the 1-1 draw with defending champions FC Yardaz and this week, their first league victory in a dominating display against KSA Pro-Profile by the score of 2-1.

But for more clinical finishing, the margin for victory could have been greater, but coach Lyndon Naipaul would have been satisfied with the result as his team now look to be clicking on all cylinders.

Club ATLetic FC have yet to lose in 3 matches in the league as they spring into contention with victory against KSA U19.

12:00pm Game:
Club ATLetic vs KSA Pro
Another solid performance from Club ATLetic as they put in a competent performance in their 3-1 victory over KSA Pro U19. A first half goal from Santy Mokgoatsana and a brace from goal machine Fuad Adeniyi were enough to distance them from a 2nd half KSA Pro U19 goal. Club now find themselves bubbling up the league table to 3rd position having games in hand over the teams above them.

Forest Rovers FC go top of the table with victory over VaHi ATLetic FC

2:00pm Game:
Forest Rovers FC vs VaHi ATLetic FC
One of the most memorable moments of this match was Rover’s Martin Lugo again with a long range goal for the 3rd time this season to cap anther victory that puts them in sole possession of 1st place in the league. Additional goals by Juan Carlos Castrejon and Ariel Almendarez were enough to cancel out the single goal from VaHi ATLetic in a match that lacked the electricity of the 1st two matches on the day, but did have the drama of a highly skilled game between two teams that wanted victory.

FC Yardaz finally getting maximum points as they returned to victory over the Granites!

4pm Game:
FC Stone Mountain vs FC Yardaz
Though the Granites of FC Stone Mountain have improved over the past few weeks, they could not stay with FC Yardaz as the defending champions secure their very first victory of the season in a very professional manner. More bad news for the Granites is seeing their 1st team goalkeeper limp off in the first half to a leg injury for the 2nd time this season and was a factor in the match.

While FC Stone Mountain stay mired near the base of the table, they are an improved squad but perhaps need some shoring up to compete at a higher level as the season goes on. FC Yardaz in contrast are now instantly in contention as they bounce up to 7th place with a pedigree to tell you they have the potential for a move forward in the table in the coming weeks.

A dominant performance from 5 Estrellas was too much for Seas Jamaica on the day.

6pm Game:
Seas Jamaica FC vs Honduras 5 Estrellas
Arguably the most amazing match of the day was between these 2 giants battling it out with Honduras 5 Estrellas throwing the knock out punch to the previous league leaders Seas Jamaica United FC by the tune of 8 goals to 3. Honduras always brings great fan support and today was no different as they were urged on by their fans and scored early and often in a game that Seas found no answer to the attacking prowess of 5 Estrellas.

5 Estrellas are now in 2nd place behind Forest Rovers FC with a game in hand. It’s a real dog fight throughout the league in the battle for the title and also the regional representative for the Caribbean Pro Premier Division.
